Sustainable Manufacturing award

The Director of the Precision Manufacturing Centre has been awarded £180,000 to develop a maintenance toolset for the UK defence sector.

The funds have been awarded by the Nottingham Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre to develop its Sustainable Manufacturing portfolio. The NIMRC has allocated £1million from its EPSRC funding to set up a Centre for Sustainability in Global Manufacturing and support new innovative technologies, systems and decision support tools to enable industry to increase its competitiveness and sustainability.

Professor Svetan Ratchev’s project “Integration of Preventive Maintenance and Capability Enhancement for Extended Product Life Cycle” will be aiming to develop a maintenance dashboard toolset, termed MDash, that will aid the decision making process between the four options of maintain, repair, update or upgrade. It should have a significant impact on extending product life-cycles of high value products.
