High precision tooling for volume manufacture of micro products
High precision tooling for volume manufacture of micro products (MicroTool)
The aim of the MicroTool project is to deliver new micro-scale process and system integration solutions for product centred processing based on integration of moulding of micro-parts, high precision machining of micro-moulds and micro/nano scale inspection.
The key developments include:
- Material removal model and empirical studies of 5-axis micro-machining of complex 3Dshaped components
- Characterisation of micro-moulding process with integrated micro/nano scale inspection operations
- Development of common data model and algorithms for multi-process data exchange
- Experimental testing and validation using industrial test cases
Key innovations:
- Part/tool deflection model in 5-axis micro-machining
- Micro-moulding process characterisation and empirical model
- Methodology for high precision inspection of micro/nano parts using tactile metrology
- Integration of manufacturing of high precision tooling and micro parts with micro/nano inspection via common data model and exchange algorithms.
