Robert obtained his degree in industrial engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. Conceding his interest in Asian cultures, he went to Japan for language studies and a subsequent working stay of two years at Citizen Machinery in the Nagano prefecture. Wanting to specialise further, he returned to Europe for a course in advanced materials and manufacture (MSc) at the University of Nottingham, before joining the PMC in 2009.
He is currently evaluating manufacturing routes for regenerative medicine linking to the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Regenerative Medicine (Remedi+). He is particularly interested in investigating conventional and additive manufacturing routes for the processing of bioactive materials, focusing on the accuracy, reliability and flexibility of laser-assisted and hybrid solutions.
